“Find American Made” for the Holidays:
Internet Guide Points the Way to American-Made Gifts
FindAmericanMade.com – a directory of galleries and boutiques that exhibit and sell gift and home goods made by American artisans – is the brainchild of Wendy Rosen, president of The Rosen Group, a Baltimore-based arts publisher, advocate and tradeshow producer.
“We’re all aware of the economic impact we make when we spend our dollars on goods produced in our own communities,” said Ms. Rosen. “This season, everyone is looking for value and quality at the right price, and we know that shoppers will get the best of all three when they support American artisans and local, independent retailers. What better way is there to invest in rebuilding our own economy?”
Ms. Rosen cited statistics disseminated by The 3/50 Project, a national campaign urging consumers to support independent retailers: Of every $100 spent with locally owned stores, about $68 stays in the community supporting payroll, taxes and other business expenses. “The goal is to keep local stores open and local workers employed and local artist studios producing,” she said.
FindAmericanMade.com directs shoppers to a state-by-state list of stores that specialize in American-made art jewelry, and handmade home furnishings and fashion accessories. These include fine craft galleries, museum gift shops, and boutiques carrying handmade gift and art products such as clocks, handbags, vases and sculpture; exclusive lines of home furnishings by professional studio artists; and one-of-a-kind artworks. Whether you’re looking for a diamond ring, a candlestick or a cake server, American artisans are crafting them with pride and selling them through independent retailers.
The list is maintained on the Web site of AmericanStyle, an arts lifestyle magazine for enthusiasts of craft shows, art festivals, museums and galleries. AmericanStyle is published by The Rosen Group. Gallery participation is membership-based.
